Stuck At Home? 11 Free Ways To Revamp Your Home During The Lockdown

299views

Working on your home makeover is one of the best things to do to keep you sane while staying in for quarantine. Not only will it beautify your humble abode – but it will also keep your mind off negative thoughts and create a more pleasant atmosphere at home.

Beautifying your home doesn’t need to cost anything. It also doesn’t need professional help from custom home builders – you can spruce up your space with the stuff you already have. You just have to be creative to take your interior design game to the next level.

Next to disinfecting and decluttering your space, check out these 11 free and simple home design upgrades to start working on right now.

1. Rearrange your furniture

When was the last time you actually moved your furniture pieces from one spot to another? Now might be the perfect time to shake things up and rotate your furniture layout.

Ever thought about ditching your couch and sitting on your bean bags and low-rise tables? How about changing the orientation of the dining table? Even small changes like swapping an armchair with a side table or moving your sitting couch to a different wall can transform your space.

2. Add a pop of color to your space

We love neutral palettes – they’re timeless, versatile, and visually soothing. But have you ever thought of adding a vivid pop of color into the mix? Colors help evoke feelings of happiness, calm, and positivity – and we can all agree that we need our daily dose of these emotions during these difficult times.

Adding small bursts of color to a more restrained decorating scheme – through wall art, pillows, lamps, shelf accessories, and centerpieces – will give it a whole new life.

3. Change your artworks and photos

If you have a feature wall for your favorite artwork/s and photos, you may want to freshen things up by changing them out. See if you have extra prints and paintings stored away and swap them in for the ones displayed. The same goes for framed photos. Now might be the perfect time to replace those 3-year-old photographs with recent ones.

4. Switch up your fabrics

Change your throw pillows and blankets and create new pairings on your sofa and armchairs. Change your bed linens and pillowcases too. Replace your window coverings. Don’t forget to switch up or layer your area rugs.

5. Use fruits instead of flowers

Fresh and vibrant flowers are everyone’s go-to dining table centerpiece. But let’s be honest – buying fresh (and expensive) flowers during these times of crisis isn’t practical. Why don’t you swap them for a lovely bowl of fruits, which also adds a punch of color to your tables?

Punch up your table setup with a collection of candlesticks and a pitcher with a single monstera leaf.

6. Punch up your bookcases and open shelving units

Do you have some spare wallpaper or even a wrapping paper with lovely prints? Paper the back of your bookshelves and open cabinetry to add a pop of color to your space. Use masking tape or washi tape to secure them, then swap it out in another month for something new.

7. Make a minimalist accent with paint

Do you still have some colorful paint left from your last remodeling project? Perhaps you can use it to make a minimalist accent on your blank walls.

According to this home improvement article, painting something is one of the most rewarding activities that’ll keep you happy during the lockdown.

8. Repaint old furniture and home accessories

Next to painting your walls, you can also use paint to revamp your old pieces and decor.

Refresh an armchair or dresser by repainting its legs. Brighten up your living room by painting the inside and/or the edges of a bookshelf. Add a pop of color by painting small accessories including your plant pots, mirror and photo frames, and other outdated centerpieces.

9. Get creative with washi tapes

Not ready for that kind of commitment with paint? Colorful adhesives, like washi tapes, can be your ally. You may use washi tapes to add color to the edges of a bookshelf. You can also use these colorful tapes to stick geometric patterns on your walls and mimic graphic wallpapers.

10. Style your coffee table

Change your centerpiece. Stack a couple of your favorite books on there. Add some flowers or greenery. Display some scented candles. Place a tray. Throw a couple of floor pillows underneath.

Take a cue from your decorating scheme and just have fun mixing and matching!

11. Reorganize your bookshelves

Are they organized by author or genre? Why don’t you shake things up and organize them by color? Make it better by fitting a few of your favorite decor items into the gaps on your shelves.
