It is unquestionably a melting pot of heritage and culture that begs to be visited. Climb on the backs of camels and ride through the Moroccan desert, or marvel at the numerous Kasbahs and their architectural wonders. Morocco may truly have something for everyone. After all, as with most countries, it is critical to ensure that the weather in Morocco is ideal when you visit.

When is the best time to visit Morocco? Continue reading to find out!

The best time to visit Morocco is spring (mid-March to May) or autumn (September to October). The weather is pleasant but warm. Winters in the mountains can be bitterly cold, with snowfall. Summers can be a bit hot.

The High Atlas Mountains are also open all year, though it does get cold in the winter. Summer may still be too hot for long-distance hikes, but if the heat doesn’t bother you, conditions are fine between April and October. Outside of these months, the peaks are covered in snow, which makes hiking more dangerous but creates some spectacular views.

The coastal regions are open all year. In the winter, temperatures are pleasant, while in the summer, temperatures can reach the mid-20s. From September to June, you can basically enjoy the highlights of Morocco. We created a Month by Month guide to traveling in Morocco

Places to Visit Morocco in January – February

A great time to visit if you prefer to avoid crowds and see Moroccans going about their daily lives in a more authentic way than during the hotter months. The weather is mostly sunny and mild, but there is a chance of rain (great for wildflowers) and snow in the mountains. The desert is beautiful right now, but it gets very cold at night, and the best and cheap way to visit the desert from Marrakech is 3 days tour from Marrakech to the desert up to 5 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga desert.

Places to Visit Morocco in March

March weather is similar to the start of spring in any country.

The weather is generally between 10°C and 20°C depending on the region, with flowers blooming and the sun shining, though it can become cooler.

Snow and rain become less common at this time of year, but it is best to pack clothing for all scenarios because the weather can be unpredictable.

Places to visit Morocco in April – May

The spring weather ranges from 15°C to 35°C from the High Atlas mountains to the desert, making this a popular time to visit. Because of the diversity of the landscape, weather can vary greatly from place to place, especially in the spring when showers are common. Labor Day is celebrated on May 1st. This may result in the closure of some shops, banks, and local schools, making the main sites busier with locals.

Morocco’s weather may be slightly better in June, July, and August, but the best time to visit Morocco is not determined solely by weather and climate. Morocco’s festivals and religious carnivals often take precedence over the weather. For example, the fasting period of Ramadan begins around the end of April or early May, and this is when locals fast to commemorate the festive occasion. However, you may find accommodation at throwaway prices during this time which may work in your favor.

Places to Visit Morocco in June

Although June is one of the hottest months in Morocco, coastal cities like Essaouira and Tangier remain relatively cool due to their location. If you want peace and quiet, June is a great month to visit Morocco because tourism is low compared to other months. This is the last month to visit the desert before the influx of insects and snakes, as well as the often unbearable heat, in July and August.

Highlights:

At this time of year, Tangier may be a good place to visit. It has certainly evolved from its days as a criminal center into a vibrant, accessible modern urban plethora. Tangier, in all its splendor, can be discovered, from the stunning seaside resorts of Asilah and Larache to the Moulay Bousselham.

Places visit Morocco in July – August

In July and August, I’ll be in Morocco.
July and August are the hottest months in Morocco, so they are not ideal for visiting; however, they should not be discounted.

Some cities in northern Morocco are suitable for a visit. You can eat fresh fish in Asilah or go scuba diving in Belyounech. Because the school holidays coincide, this is a popular time for families; as a result, many hotels and riads are booked well in advance, particularly those with swimming pools.

Because daytime temperatures in the south can reach the mid-40°Cs, exploring and sightseeing are best done in the morning or evening, making this an excellent time to combine activities and relaxation.

This is also an excellent time to visit the Atlantic coast, particularly Essaouira and the village of Sidi Kaouki, which can be chilly at other times of the year.

Places to visit Morocco in September

After the hot summer months, September is an ideal time to visit Morocco because it offers pleasant warm weather and clear blue skies as it transitions into autumn. The beaches are less crowded with local vacationers, the cities welcome gentle breezes, and exploring the desert becomes more enjoyable.

Events & Festivals

Eid al-Adha (around September, varies depending on the lunar calendar): Muslims celebrate the ‘Feast of Sacrifice’ over three days. Throughout the country, animals are sacrificed in honor of Abraham, and shops close as families gather, making it a unique but exciting time to visit.

Highlights:

Marrakesh, also known as the “Red City,” is a must-see destination that should not be missed. Because it is the country’s capital, it may serve as your base of operations due to its accessibility and mainstream popularity. Marrakesh’s walls are adorned with red ochre pigment, which gives the city its name.

places to visit Morocco in October

October is one of the best months to visit Morocco because the weather is cooler and more pleasant for sightseeing. With temperatures dropping and becoming very windy later in the month, this is an excellent month for hiking in the mountains and visiting the Atlantic coast.

As a result, October is a popular travel month, and trips during this time of year should be planned well in advance.

best places to Visit Morocco in November – December

The last few months of the year are ideal for exploring Morocco’s imperial cities. The sunny but cooler days make it easy to explore the colorful sights and sounds of Marrakech and Fez. Other regional centers, such as the coastal town of Essaouira and the Atlas mountains, are also worth visiting, but coastal winds and potential snow in the mountains will bring colder weather, especially in the evenings.
