A herd of elephants trudges the well-worn path from Zimbabwe’s miombo woodlands through the Chobe region, pausing at the riverfront, and on into arid Namibia before returning again. Elephant Valley Lodge lies along this route, deep in the Kasane Forest and adjacent to the Chobe National Park.

Through Makgadikgadi National Park, an Elephants for Africa representative will guide travelers to find elephants and learn about elephant ecology. Then, guests will meet farmers in Moreomaoto for a “life with elephants” tour to better understand how the farmers live alongside elephants — and how the elephants are deterred — with the help of Elephants for Africa.

In the Panhandle area of the Okavango, there are a number of camps and lodges that specialize in fishing excursions. Fishing can also be done on the Chobe River, outside the park. Fishing is only allowed in designated areas of the national parks, and only with an official permit.

Our destination in Kgalagadi is along the Nossob River, and we will be staying here for the next two nights at Rooiputs Lodge. The lodge is on the Botswana side of the river and is well known for the visiting Predators. Upon entering the park, we will have a full day of a game drive towards Rooiputs Lodge.
