Driving a vehicle on public roads in our country not just needs a person to have excellent driving skills but also a valid driving licence. According to the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, it is compulsory for a driver to have a driving licence. The same rule is application for commercial vehicle drivers too. Commercial vehicles are mostly employed for business purposes. They either carry goods or passengers and can be both light and heavy vehicle type. A person driving such a vehicle should be proficient in driving and must own a commercial driving licence. It must be noted that commercial vehicles are mostly operated on national highways, hence a person must know all the traffic rules and regulations.
A commercial vehicle driving license is issued by the Regional Transport Offices in India. This licence serves as a document that basically allows the driver to operate commercial vehicles used for good transportation as well as for the public. You can apply at your zonal RTOs to get a commercial vehicle driving licence. The Government of India has provided an online portal facility using which you can apply for a commercial driving licence online. An online application process for a commercial driving licence is very smooth and hassle-free. Here are the steps that you can follow for applying for a commercial driving licence online:
Step 1: Open the Sarathi website in India and download application form no. 4
Step 2: Fill in the application form and upload the scanned copy of the form
Step 3: Submit your photographs and other scanned documents including age and address proof
Step 4: Submit form 1A i.e. the medical certificate
Step 5: Submit form 5, a form that specifies that the driver has got training from a government driving school
Step 6: After the successful submission of documents, a serial number will be sent to the registered mobile number of the applicant
Step 7: Once the application process is completed, a person is called for the driving test
In case you are not comfortable with the online application process, you can always follow the conventional process and submit the application through offline mode. The steps for submitting an application for a commercial driving licence is mentioned below:
Step 1: Visit the local RTO, for example, A person living in MP can visit RTO Offices in Madhya Pradesh
Step 2: Collect form no.2 and fill it
Step 3: Submit the rest documents like age and address proof with the filled application form
Step 3: Submit Medical certificate i.e. form 1A and form 5
Step 4: Once all the documents are verified by the concerned person, the person is called for the driving test
Step 5: On passing the driving test, the commercial driving licence is sent through speed post to the applicant on the registered address.
