Especially when the problem is with the main door of your home, it is something that you should not overlook.

Because you never know what might happen if your house doors are not working right. In this article, we aim to answer this frequently asked question- “How do you fix a door that won’t lock?” So, without any further delay, let us get into the discussion.

Finding the reason behind the issue

First things first, you should know the reason that is causing the problem. For the sake of convenience, we will talk about some possible reasons that may be causing this problem. And after each one, we shall also share a solution that may help you fix your door once again!

Abate or frigid lock

There are situations when you try a lot, but the lock on your door will just not turn & refuse to be locked or opened. And after a disturbing session of fidgeting with the doorknob & lock, finally, it opens. If you are facing a similar issue, it is possible that your door lock has frozen.

When the weather is intensely cold, a lock can chill & confine. In this case, you can spray a lock de-icer to defrost & lubricate that lock. Hopefully, it will solve your problem. And sometimes, this issue occurs due to the jamming of the lock. Even a small amount of dirt can jam your lock sometimes.

To solve this problem, you should use a graphite-based lubricant on the key & then insert it inside the lock. Now, try to rotate the key inside the lock. Doing so will soften any accumulated dirt inside the lock & eventually fix the problem.

Battery problem in keyless digital door locks

Digital door locks are becoming popular day by day. Keyless door locks can be of several types & their way of functioning may vary. If you notice that your keyless digital lock is not chartering to lock the door, check on the batteries because they might be the ones causing the issue.

Follow the instruction manual provided by the manufacturer to change the batteries & hope that it will fix your problem. And if you are unable to do so, contact the manufacturer for support. They will advise you on what you should do.

Lax lockset

Sometimes, the doorknobs can get a bit out & you may notice some distance between the door & the knob. When you use a lock frequently for a long time, the knob of the lock may become lax & you may have a hard time opening & closing the door.

The solution to this problem is to stiffen the loose lockset. To do this, take a screwdriver & detach the screws from the knob’s source. Now, open your door & hold the knob on the other side of the door strongly. Then, rotate your knob clockwise.

When you feel that the lockset is now properly in place, install the screws back to their places firmly. Finally, turn your knob again to check if the problem has been fixed. And if you still see the problem persist, it may be an indication that your knob spindle is damaged & old. You will need a replacement to fix this problem.
