Today I’m here to talk about an enjoyable topic – the babymoon. Sounds familiar? A babymoon is the final romantic or relaxing vacation a parent takes before the baby is born. There are no rules, you could go as a couple, with your friends or even solo, if that’s something you want to do.
The main idea behind going on a babymoon is to unwind and give yourself as much pampering and me-time as possible before you get burdened with the responsibility of raising a child. Everybody knows childcare is hard work, and it only makes sense to invest in your mind and body thoroughly so that you are in the best shape when your baby finally comes!
No wonder then the craze of a babymoon is catching on wildly. But since babymoons are relatively new phenomena, soon-to-be-parents might not always know what to carry when taking one. Down below is the list of things you must pack to make your babymoon so much better. We all know nothing spoils a holiday worse than forgetting stuff you absolutely need.
So sit back, relax and slowly check all the things listed down below. Let’s get started!
1) A Four-wheel Suitcase
I know you were expecting something far fancier but hear me out. You are pregnant. That changes everything. Two-wheel suitcases are more difficult to carry than four-wheel ones, and in your present condition, you will not be and should not be hauling one throughout the station or airport. Get a small or even a medium-sized four-wheel suitcase for their ease of access. That way, no matter how much stuff you pack, you will never have to bear the weight.
2) All of your sexy maternity wear hiding in the closet.
Now is the time to paint the town red. We know you went on a pregnancy wear shopping spree like all the moms-to-be as soon as you tested positive. And in the excitement of it all, you must have bought a few pieces that are so good-looking you don’t know what to do with them. Well, take them out. Say bye to boring clothes and pack your bag full of flowy dresses, cute tops, pants, and swimwear, if you are traveling to a beach location.
3) Medical Insurance
This is of utmost importance since you are pregnant. What if you had to give birth prematurely or face any other medical emergency? This is not to stress you out, but you need to be extra careful and prepared for any eventuality. Always keep your medical insurance and all the other documents, including your prescriptions and doctor’s reports, at hand for any kind of emergency. You will feel all the better for it.
4) Nausea Medication
Carry it, even if you don’t get travel sickness. Pregnancy changes a body in myriad little ways, and if you have not traveled far from the onset of your pregnancy, there’s no reason why you should risk having a nauseated drive to your destination. Right? How much space does it take anyway? In fact, I suggest you take one before hitting the road just to be on the safer side.
It goes without saying, always consult your doctor before putting any medicines into your body. Take them only if it’s doctor-approved.
5) Bug Repellant
You don’t want nasty bugs or mosquitoes around you when you are pregnant. If you are going to a place known for having them, carry a pack in your pocket for instant use. Having flying insects around the ear can totally kill the vacation mood.
6) Comfy Shoes
When packing for your babymoon, put comfort over style. You might imagine yourself looking sultry dressed in an evening gown with a pair of high-heeled sandals, but flat shoes look just as cute. And they can be worn everywhere without the slightest discomfort to your baby bump. Get yourself a pair of gladiators or tie-ups for that extra edge.
7) Body Lotions and Other Skin care
Although skin care is something you should never overlook, most of us forget to include it in our travel kits. Long train rides and flights can make skin sensitive, especially during the Covid situation when you are required to frequently wash hands or slather them with sanitizers.
You will agree like most moms do, that pregnancy makes the skin go haywire. Even women with perfect skin are reported to have blotches or rough patches during pregnancy, therefore making skincare essential. Carry items that are tried and tested in your travel bag.
8) A Good Camera
You will want to look back at all the happy memories and recount them once your child is born. You can even make it into a photo album for your kid to cherish when they grow up.
If you are not so great with the camera, take a smartphone instead. Most smartphones today have excellent cameras that capture light effectively. Whatever you do, don’t forget to click some pictures flaunting your baby bump.
9) Healthy Snacks
Pregnancy puts a lot of restrictions on your eating habits, and eating healthy can become tough sometimes when eating outside. For that, carry dry snacks in your bag that you can munch on whenever the food pangs hit you.
By now, you must already be familiar with what your body does or does not agree with during the pregnancy. So pack accordingly. Be ready with Granola bars, dried dates, figs, almonds, seed mix, and some dark chocolate.
10) Vitamins and Other Medication
Pack everything that the doctor ordered. This is vital for a healthy babymoon without any stress. Often in the rush and excitement of going on a vacation, we forget to pack the most essential things. While it can be easily handled on any other trip, forgetting essential things when you are pregnant can lead to a lot of unwanted tension.
Dedicate a small pouch solely for your pregnancy meds so you can reach out blindly whenever you need them.
11) Compression Socks
Getting into these socks might make you feel like your grandpa but trust us, the comfort you feel will soon make you forget about all that. Being pregnant puts a lot of load on your feet, making them swell up. It’s only going to worsen with travel. Wear a pair of compression socks right before your journey begins, and thank me later!
12) A Book or anything for entertainment
It’s wise to carry a book or something to access the internet on if you are going to be traveling for long. Even for a short journey, you could pick some entertainment to kill any hours of boredom if you encounter them.
I hope the list of essentials for a babymoon has you covered. So plan your babymoon, pack your bags, and get started.
