Arthunkal Church

 

Arthunkal Church is one of the oldest churches in Kerala, which is situated 23 km from the Alappuzha railway station. It is situated on the coast of the Arab Sea.

 

This church is consecrated to St. Sebastian and is in Latin order. 11 days are celebrated at Arthunkal Feast. A special ceremony in which devotees kneel down from the surrounding sea to the church is a highlight of the final day of the festival.

 

A good spot to see the Sunset is close to Arthunkal beach (0.5 km). There’s no company on the sand.

 

Arthunkal is located between Alappuzha and Kochi near to the NH47 (about five km from Tiruvizha Railway Station). The Arthunkal Church provides private/public vehicles from the highway.

 

Mullakkal Raja Rajeswari Temple

 

Mullakkal Raja Rajeswari Temple is a popular Alappuzha temple, which is dedicated to goddess Durga, 4 km away from Alappuzha Railway Station.

 

Goddess Raja Rajeshwari is believed to be present here to look after a jasmine flower (Mullakkal means Jasmine Flower in Malayalam). Two annual festivals are held in the Temple – the festival Navratri (October / November) and the Festival Thaipooyakavadi (November / December). The last couple of days was the happiest. Nine elephants take part in lively processions at night. Thousands of devotees are experiencing it. A variety of cultural programs are also conducted in the temple, including Ottanthullal & Kathakali.

 

In November/December, the Thaipooyakavadi celebrated 41 days. The whole city is illuminated and decorated and gloriously enjoyed the past ten days.

 

Krishnapuram Palace

 

Krishnapuram Palace on the NH47 is a splendor palace built by Kayamkulam Kings at a distance of 49 Km from Alappuzha.

 

Marthanda Varma, Travancore’s Maharaja of the Kayamkulam rulers, occupied the Palace in the 18th century. The palace is unknown in origin and age. The palace, with roof gables, narrow halls, and dormer windows, is a rare architectural specimen of the Kerala style.

 

The palace currently houses a museum of archaeology, with many beautiful exhibits from the city. The 49 square was the most interesting exhibit. The largest wall painting discovered in Kerala is the meter Gajendra Moksham. At the entrance of this palace near the lake, the mural was placed to enable the Kings to worship the gods. The garden with a range of floras and the Buddha mandapam, unusual bronze sculptures, and painting are other attractions at the palace.

 

Champakulam

Champakulam is a splendid village on the banks of the Riverbank of Pampa River in the district of Alappuzha at a distance of 13 km from Alappuzha Railway Station. It’s the rice bowl of Kerala, part of the Kuttanad region.

 

The oldest snake boat races in Kerala are the Champakulam Moolam Boat Race. On the day of Moolam in the Malayalam month of June and June in Midhunam, the race takes place at Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple in the Pampa River. The race takes place.

 

Founded in 427 AD, Champaculam is one of India’s oldest churches. This church has undergone several transformations and upgrades. A lot of inscriptions explain the history of the church. On 3 October the annual festival is held.

 

Mararikulam Beach

 

Mararikulam Beach is a beautifully unknown beach located in the village of Mararikulam at 16 Kms from Alappuzha Railway Station. It’s one of Kerala’s most picturesque beaches. This sandy white beach is full of cocoa trees that give the beach a unique appearance. This is one of Alappuzha and Kochi’s popular tourist destinations.

 

The beach is about 3 km before Kanjikkunzhi between Alappuzha and Kochi from the NH47 junction (known as the Mararikulam-Kalithattu Junction). The NH47 link is linked to Alappuzha and Kochi by frequent buses.

 

Several options to stay at the beach are available.

 

Pathiramanal Island, Near Kumarakom

 

Pathiramanal island (meaning Sands of Night) is situated at a distance of 12 km from Kumarakom Bus Station & 20 km from Alappuzha and is located on the border between Kottayam and Alapuzha, at Vembanad Lake. Anantha Padmanabhan Thopu is also called it. It is one of the most popular sites in Alleppey Backwaters for the cruise.

 

Ranging over 10 hectares, Kumarakom – Muhamma waterway is an easily reachable location on the island. Surrounded by Lake Vembanad, the island is an ideal place to have a break from Kumarakom / Alleppey on a backwater cruise.

 

Hundreds of uncommon birds, including 91 local bird species and 50 migratory birds, are at the top of the island. Pintail ducks, common teal, cormorant, darter, indigenous shag, purple heron, bovines can be found.
