The ZenBook UM425IA stands out on paper if we consider price-to-specs availability. Let’s find out whether it lives up to the expectation.

Design & Build Review

Asus laptops generally pack components inside chassis with low footprints. However, UM425IA is something more than a compact laptop. It is a shining example of portability and slimness, thanks to a 14.3mm profile and 14-inch frame. The laptop is made of aluminium metal and weighs around 2.49lbs (1.13kg).

Our model came in Grey colour with a matte finish and neatly chamfered edges. The same grey shade is extended to its bottom panel and keyboard deck. However, the bezels around the display are black and feature the ZenBook logo on the bottom. This is a user-friendly design as we were able to top lift the lid with one hand.

Display Performance

The display on ZenBook UM425IA, like other modern Asus laptops, features an IPS panel. So, you can have a batter view from every angle and can work contentedly. An anti-glare finish allows the user to work comfortably under daylight and bright lighting. Plus, you can share the screen with your team during meetings.

Its 14-inch Full HD screen makes it stand out among other AMD laptops. This is a diagonal display with a 16:9 screen ratio that offers 259 nits averagely. You will receive 157ppi pixel per density with a 1100:1 contrast ratio. Overall, this is a decent display for a 14-inch business Ultrabook. You can work in all types of environments and can entertain yourself while streaming high-quality videos.

Keyboard & Touchpad

ASUS ZenBook UM425IA features a backlit keyboard that we found a decent fit. Thanks to its ErgoLift hinge design, the lid tilts the keyboard deck when you lift it. This provides ample room beneath the bottom panel for ventilation and thus keeps the laptop cool. However, another befit of the ErgoLift mechanism is that you get an ergonomic angle for typing. The keyboard gives a nod to Ultrabooks and features soft keys with reasonable tactile feedback.

The touchpad, on the other hand, is a true piece of technology. This is a digital touchpad that offers access to LED-illuminated Numpad. It is a large trackpad that delivers a premium feel upon touching and responds swiftly. You can turn the numeric pad off or on by pressing the dedicated key on the top corner.

Ports & Connectivity

The ZenBook UM425IA come equipped with futuristic connectivity options like other latest Asus laptops. It has two USB-C 3.2 ports and an HDMI output on the left edge. You can use both ports to charge the device or as DisplayPorts, sadly they are not equipped with Thunderbolt 3 technology. On the right edge, there is a MicroSD card reader and just one USB-A port.

It is a modern port selection for a business laptop. There are not many AMD laptop with USB-C port connections. However, it lacks the 3.5mm audio connector which might irritate music lovers. Instead, you will need an adaptor to connect the device through a USB-C port. For wireless connectivity, there is Bluetooth 5.0 and the latest 6th generation WiFi.

Hardware & Performance

The ZenBook UM425IA is one of those Asus laptops that feature AMD components. In fact, it is one of the most powerful AMD laptops at its price. There is a high-speed Ryzen 7-4700U processor with a 2.0GHz base frequency. You can uncap its boosting potential to receive a maximum clock speed of 4.1GHz.

It runs on the Windows 10 Pro version, which offers access to premium features. The combo of 8GB memory with 512GB Solid-state drive delivers a solid performance with quick access to files. For an AMD business Ultrabook, this is a promising specs combination on a 14-inch chassis.

We evaluated its performance by opening multiple Chrome tabs while we were multitasking. There were no glitches when we jumped between apps as we were able to access files concurrently. For business users, the UM425IA is a lightweight choice with the right set of hardware.

Battery Life

This is one of those Asus laptops that are armed with long-lasting batteries. The ZenBook UM425IA features a 67Wh battery that Asus claims can live up to 22 hours. This is a bold statement which we did not find true. We were only able to extract around 14 hours on a single charge.

Still, it ranks higher among 8GB RAM laptops and offers more than most AMD laptops. You can use it without facing battery anxiety and at the end of the day, it will still have some juice left in it.

Final Thought

ASUS ZenBook UM425IA is a slick model from AMD laptops’ range with some amazing specs. The inclusion of an HD camera, IR sensors, and Windows 10 Pro are some of its highlighted features. There are not many 8GB RAM laptops with such a perfectly balanced hardware combination.
