Septic System

If you’re buying a house in a rural area, you are probably going to need a septic system to dispose of waste. Often rural homes can’t be connected to municipal sewage systems, so they have to rely on septic systems to do the same task. It’s often too expensive to connect with city sewers. If this is all new to you, you might have some questions. Such as:  how much does a septic system cost?

The answer isn’t as simple. The cost will change depending on what type of system you get. There are two main types of septic systems. The cost, treatment mechanisms, and size of the leach field are determined by which system you choose.

Anaerobic Septic System

This is the most common and conventional system. It uses anaerobic bacteria to decompose waste in the septic tank. Pipes transport the waste from your home to the septic tank where waste will be broken down and wastewater will travel to the leach field. The installation costs are fairly inexpensive and can cost somewhere between $2,000 to $5,000.

Aerobic Septic System

In order for the aerobic bacteria to break down the waste in the septic tank, oxygen needs to enter the septic tank. This is done by having a timer and motor that provide the needed oxygen for the system to work. Farmers or gardeners would benefit from this system because the water is treated better and is great for irrigation. This system is a little more costly at around $13,00 to $26,000.

In order to have an efficient septic system, you also need to consider the type of septic tank you will need. You might be asking how much does a septic tank cost? The cost changes based on material used and the size of the tank. You’ll want to have a tank that is big enough for your home so that it works properly. Having a tank that is too small will cause waste to fill it up too quickly.

Plastic Septic Tanks

Plastic septic tanks are the cheapest and easiest to install. The only problem with these are that they can develop cracks and break easier than other materials. It will cost around $1,100 for a 1,000-gallon tank and $2,100 for a 1,500-gallon tank.

Fiberglass Septic Tanks

Fiberglass septic tanks are just as light and easy to install as plastic tanks. The major difference is that these tanks don’t contract or expand so they won’t develop any cracks. Less algae also grows on fiberglass tanks because they are non-porous. A 1,000-gallon fiberglass septic tank will cost roughly $1,600 while a 1,500-gallon tank can be priced at $2,000.

Concrete Septic Tanks

Since these tanks are so durable and affordable, they are the most common material chosen for septic tank installations. They can last up to 30 years with proper care and maintenance. A 1,000-gallon concrete tank cost around $1,200 and $1,800 is the typical value for a 1,500-gallon tank.

Now that you are aware of the cost of septic system installation, you have all the tools to make the best choice for your home.
