Feature of LED Panel Lights

156views

LED panel lights are flat horizontal panel lights with a very slim and sleek profile. They are barely 10mm wide in thickness and highly efficient lighting fixtures. Led panel lights are made for offices where they easily recess into modular ceilings.

These ceiling lights are extremely innovative and ambient lighting technology for modern commercial spaces. In offices, the health of an employee and productive environment is a major concern and uneven light can cause glare which causes eye strain and headaches.

Structure of a LED Panel Light

Previously, troffer light fixtures operating on fluorescent lamps were used in office spaces due to modular grid ceiling design. LED panel light has successfully replaced those fluorescent fixtures of varying light quality.

A typical panel light structure contains:

Housing frame:

Made up of aluminum which also provides support to the structure and protection from harmful environmental factors and also provides heat dissipation.

Guide plate:

The guide plate houses LEDs arranged on it.

Reflector plate:

The reflector plate guides the light out of the fixture by the mechanism of total internal reflection.

Diffuser:

The diffuser provides uniform light out of the fixture as the light from light source is scattered on diffuser plate and then emitted in a uniform pattern out of the fixture.

Power circuit:

Power circuit is simply the mechanical part of the light panel which powers it.

Basically, panel lights are available in two designs:

  1. Direct-lit flat panels
  2. Edge lit flat panels.

Edge-lit panel lights

Typically in and edge lit panel light the light is transmitted from LEDs arranged round the edge and creating any desired lighting pattern. They are getting extremely popular applications in indoor lighting for this very reason. The reflectors and diffusers are attached to edges in edge lit panels to control the amount of light coming out of the fixture.

Edge lit panels have flexible length and width which delivers uniform lighting with versatility so nowadays they are used in restaurants, shops, offices etc to create various lighting patterns.

Back/direct-lit panels

The light source on back-lit panels is positioned at the back of the panel, so there’s a slight distance in between the edges and light source. This allows to create a uniform lighting pattern and the usual thickness of back-lit panels is more than edge-lit panels.

Back-lit panels are brighter and much efficient than edge-lit panels and mostly used in grid ceilings.

Uses and advantages of  LED panels

LED light panels are the most successful lighting technology to date because of their design and seamless lighting. They are available in varying sizes and are mostly round, square or rectangular shape. LED flat panel lights have been a successful application in following areas:

  • Schools
  • Gymnasiums
  • Hospitals
  • Offices
  • Retail stores
  • Warehouses
  • Recreational facilities

They have several advantages over traditional lighting fixtures as:

  1. They are energy efficient
  2. Have a uniform light distribution pattern
  3. Have integrated LEDs and they do not use an external lighting source
  4. Lightweight so they are easy to transport and install
  5. Have longer life-span
  6. Are low maintenance
  7. Help save light energy and costs
